Obama to POLITICO: Some in Congress hypocritical on spill

In an interview with POLITICO, the president said: “I think it’s fair to say, if six months ago, before this spill had happened, I had gone up to Congress and I had said we need to crack down a lot harder on oil companies and we need to spend more money on technology to respond in case of a catastrophic spill, there are folks up there, who will not be named, who would have said this is classic, big-government overregulation and wasteful spending.”

The president also implied that anti-big government types such as tea party activists were being hypocritical on the issue.

You know as much as I dislike our current president I almost have to agree with what he said...... I dont know how we can blame Obama for BP's mistake....Just like we cant blame Bush for Katrina..... I'm for smaller government with less regulation and oversight....BP needs to get off there ass and fix what they broke and its not the govt's responsibility to fix it... More oversight and regulation just brings us closer to socialism.......

I believe enviromentalists are to blame also because they helped force Oil companies farther out to sea. We should be drilling oil closer to shore and things like this wouldn't happen. We also have plenty of oil on land that we should be drilling. Obama should have made them drill closer to shore.

I actually agree 100% with this statement. In fairness though the rigs were forced to drill in the deep waters long before Osama bin Obama came to power.
