| I have been lucky enough to meet both guys in one on one situations. I have met numerous times with Peter, and once with Gary. That is why I favor Gary over Peter. Let me explain; I met Gary when I was a state delegate when Gary was one of 10 candidates to replace Leavitt for Governor. I liked his view of how the state should be ran, and for his honest answers to my pointed questions. In fact, I was disappointed when he dropped out in order to be Huntsman's running mate. I met several times with Peter when he first ran for Salt Lake County Mayor. I was the Legislative chair for the Communication Workers of America Local #7704. That meant I was over where the Local endorsed/funded local/state politicians. Peter is plenty smart, but I have deep reservations on how tied to unions and progressive policies he is. I don't see what Peter offers Utah that gives me cause to throw my support behind him that is head and shoulders (even though Gary is jahan's size) over Herbert. I have really liked what I have seen so far from Herbert. He is a HUGE improvement over Huntsman. | |

| Seriously wish I knew more about Herby... My starfish is still sore from the loss of a couple hundred years of access to the States waters he signed in to law as well as his signature on the stupid ass message bills. | |

WTF ? That sound like a union... You are correct. I was a Union member for 10+ years. Let me try and explain why: I was employed at Qwest for over 12 years. Qwest is a unionized corporation. So, my wages/benefits,work conditions/promotions were under the control of CWA which is part of the AFL-CIO. I had a choice, keep fighting the union and its contracts from the outside as a 'scab' or join and fight for reform at the Local level at the bargaining table. I like a good fight, so I signed up and started attending the Local monthly membership meetings. From day one I was a man on an island. I questioned my sanity as first, but I am a stubborn SOB and I wasn't going to get whopped that easily. I stayed calm and voiced my concerns with facts and reason, something that was often a foreign concept at the Hall. A few months later my peers asked my to be a shop steward, which meant talking with management when employees claimed abuse. This gave me instance 'street cred' with even the hard core unionists when I quickly won a couple of big grievances where the company had ignored the contract. I then was asked, as the ONLY conservative, to sit on the legislative committee where local/state politicians met with the Local asking for campaign funds and endorsements. I was in heaven! I was able to see the behind the scenes actions of the likes of Jim Matheson and his brother Scott, and most of the 'players' from both parties. I was soon asked to be the Legislative Chair, which came with lobbyist credentials that allowed me access to every member on the hill. I was shortly invited to sit on the Legislative Committee for the Utah AFL-CIO where national issues where discussed as well as local/state issues. I worked directly with Senator Ed Mayne, a man I liked and respected even though we rarely agreed on ANYTHING. RIP Ed! I attended many conferences in the western states meeting with the most radical unionists on the planet. At one such even in July of 2004 I had to have two full-time bodyguards with me after the FIRST night. The 400+ folks didn't like it when I questioned the national president of the AFL-CIO ( I can't recall his name off-hand) on his contention in his opening remarks that electing John Kerry would "end poverty". After he said this nonsensical mush, and after the 5 minute long standing ovation of everyone BUT me, I calmly stood and asked him a one word question that set off a near riot. I asked, "HOW?" I don't think I ever converted a single union activist, but I KNOW I brought many an 'average' union member out of the shadows. I also have many friends that disagree with everything I believe when it comes to politics. I also had many doors opened to me that would never have been available if I had stayed on the 'outside' and just complained like so many conservatives did/do.

| If you had to choose one of the following to most aptly describe your union experience it would be ?
A. Wading through a settling pond at a sewage plant B. Being Claus von Stauffenberg in 1944 C. Jane Goodall and her work in Tanzania

I had my moments where I cam close to going postal no doubt. I even made enemies with some of the 'conservatives' on the out1side because I had "sold my soul". Even though I am no longer a union member, I still talk with many of the activists at the union hall. In fact, I was contacted two months ago asking to run for Local President. A couple of years ago I would have probably accepted the invite. Now, I passed due to issues at home and my belief I can do more, at this point, from the 'outside'. I doubt I could stomach the climate of the unions right now.

| Yeah, I think that might definitely be a conflict of interest with you Pro, given your current beliefs. | |

| I'll have to go with coroon. He knows how to control a budget, he is for stream access, and he would veto any more stupid 'message bills' that our legistators seem so fond of. I thought it was pretty lame that when Peter outlined his plan for education Herbert decided to play the religion card and say that seminary release time and arts would probably be effected. That was just weak. | |

this ain't gonna be an easy sell. Yep, Corroon for me. HB 141 was the nail in Herbert's coffin, and I'm a life long conservative. Not just that he signed it, but the whole deal w/his brother in law on the Lower Provo.
