| This case is exactly why I believe vigilante justice is more effective than the judicial system. The system allows this asshole to victimise Elizabeth and her family over and over and over again. | |

| Doesn't sound like you place much value on the constitution of the united states.
BDM has been confined since he was captured and when all is said and done he is going to die in a federal prison. Justice is being served but it can be a slow, messy thing for sure. I'm just glad the feds picked up the case after the state failed to try him.
There sure were a lot of blacks hung from trees in the jim crow south by vigilantees. That your idea of justice?

| You are comparing apples to oranges Scotty there is no doubt Mitchell abducted and raped Elizabeth and now him and his lawyers get to rape her over and over again with the judicial system. I absolutely care about the constitutional rights of victims screw the perpetrators and the slimy lawyers that use the system to violate the victims for years. | |

| Vigilante justice doesn't not protect the constitutional rights of the accused, whether you like it or not they have rights. Even if BDM is a scumbag and deserves to rot in prison, he still has rights, and he still needs to be treated as a human. It is unfortunate what his lawyers are doing but that is the way the judicial system is set up, if you don't like it talk to your legislature and get them to change stuff. | |

| Don't make us out to be criminal lovers here. You continue to push the idea that people should take the law into their own hands and that is not right. I have spent the last 10 years of my life making things very unpleasant for criminals. We run a tight ship and most of them are tickled when the get to go to the state prison because they hate our facility so much. That being said though, I believe firmly in the bill of rights, including the rights of the accused and due process. If you or I were accused of a heinous crime it is what gives us a chance to clear our name. The right to a vigorous defense is what keeps law enforcement from becoming tyrranical.
6th ammendment: In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district where in the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense.
You seem to want to cherry pick the constitution. Do you like when people want to dismiss the 2nd ammendment as unimportant or irrelevant?

| +1 what ScottyP said. "Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law" As damning as the evidence is against him is, he is still "innocent" until a jury says otherwise. No doubt if you were accused of a heinous crime you wouldn't want your rights violated. This case has been a circus but we still need to follow the law, I am pretty certain federal prison is not going to be fun for him. You have already seen what being a vigilante dad got one guy, it got him prison time and if he is a hunter no more hunting and a criminal record when he gets out. Not to mention he more than likely will not get to see his children get married or seen his grandchildren born, doesn't sound worth it to me for a few seconds of vengeance.
Ed Smart has done exactly what any father should do, he is the model for being a good father to a girl who has something like this happen to her. I haven't followed the case very much but from what I have seen he has done everything right. Take some notes.
