Why create such a forum?

Several reason's have lead me to create this forum but the biggest is the over moderation and censorship on previous forums that I have visited has inspired to to create a forum solely about today's politics. Today's politics are more controversial than they ever have been and …

Okay old wise ones study

...if you were the South Korean government what would you do in response to North Korea blantanly shelling the tiny South Korean island?

My recommendations:

South Korea first and for most take care of the folks on this island

South Korea continue to show restraint and also continue with the military exercise with a bigger show of force

South Korea continue working with other countries especially 'all countries' pressuring China to further rein in this rogue countries government especially now the youngster I believe is in charge ...

...don't know what else can be done as this country and it's people are on the brink of non-existence anyway and unfortunately its again only a matter of time. I don't believe another war or conflict of huge undertaking is something this world can handle...

This is not a pretty scene IMHO and I can only hope North Korea stops with the BS...but that is unlikely.

China has a chance to do some good here I believe. North Korea literally depends on China for almost everything, and there is nothing quite like being "cut off" completely IMO. Whether or not they do anything about N. Korea remains to be seen.

I would also add that N. Korea attacking S. Korea is a direct violation of the ceasefire agreement, and therefore an act of war. Kim Jong Il has been a crazy bastard for as long as I have known about him. This is going to be an issue I will watching closely.

An interesting read from the Navy Times...its appears a very rationale initial approach to a very irrational North Korean government who doesn't give a crap about its own suffering people...even if they do have a huge standing Army how long will this huge standing Army last if the worst case scenario God forbid were to happen...I sure hope 'that' scenario doesn't happen.

China needs to rein in its very disturbed distant cousin...China has a whole lot at stake on this side of the world and 'eyes' are going to be watching China's response on this one. This is going to be an interesting Chess match the Chinese government will have as I see it.

Great post K2. I don't disagree with anything that you said. China needs to apply some pressure to the North or all hell could break loose. If this does take a turn for the worse, and The U.S. becomes involved, it's gonna be ugly all the way around. Another war will put much more strain on our financial system, and war has the potential to make the stock market crash.
This could be the war that destroys all economic stability on a world wide basis if it gets out of hand. I don't think that the North, or CHina, would like that to happen unless they really are that crazy. affraid

I think the North is bluffing; however, a strong show of strengh from the South is needed. If the North is bluffing, then they are playing an extremely dangerous game of cat and mouse. They just may have crossed the line this time. Whatever happens, I hope it's not worst case scenario.
