Lefty maybe you could elaborate on why profit is evil! Money itself is not evil, it is an inanimate object it is neither good nor bad just like a gun would be. Money can be used for good or evil. It is the Love of Money That Is The Root Of All Evil With that being said people do not work for free, no matter how much they love their job they still need money to support their families, and in a high pressure industrie such as medical field don't you believe that those who save lives deserve just compensation, even to the point of having a living wage that allows them to live comfortably.

The love of money of money is NOT the root of all evil, the love of money over everything else is. Profits in the health care industry is crucial. Without profits what motives are there for innovations, quality services, and quantity of services? The greatest medical innovations we enjoy today are a direct result of the "immoral profit motive". The ills in the health care industry are many, but the desire for profits is NOT among the worst. Crony capitalism, and yes REGULATIONS are the biggest cause of high costs and poor quality of care/services. We are doing the exact opposite of what should be done. We should be removing barriers, regulations, government mandated shortages of health care professionals/facilities, and restrictions on where/how medications are made available.

"Stryker, the Kalamazoo-based maker of artificial hips and knees, will cut 5% of its global workforce by the end of next year to reduce costs in the face of new fees on device makers required by the U.S. health care law.

The job cuts will reduce annual pretax operating costs by more than $100 million beginning in 2013, when the medical-device excise tax is scheduled to take effect, Stryker said Thursday in a statement. Stryker had more than 20,000 employees as of Dec. 31, according to Bloomberg News data.

Stryker expects to record $85 million to $95 million of the expense in the fourth quarter of 2011."
