Yesterday, I took my concealed carry course at my local gun shop. Just thought I'd share my experience with everyone.
First off, ANY day that begins with shooting guns is not a bad day at all. I show up at seven, and immediately we head for the range. EXCELLENT!! Out of 50 required shots fired, 35 had to be on target to pass the course. I put 50 on the target. We even got to pop some double taps. In the middle of all of this, I had a rather hot brass get stuck between my eyebrow and eye protection, and now have a neat-o blister above my brow. It's one instance where if I had not worn eye protection, there wouldn't have been a burn..... but eye protection has saved my eyes in more instances than I can count.
Well, after range time, we headed up to the class room. The first half of the class was sheer laws, ordinances, etc. Super boring, but really interesting and informing. Exit for lunch. The second half of the class, was more theory based. Topics dealing with a carry mindset, general gun safety, cleaning, ammunition choices, methods of carry, etc., etc., etc..... I also gave a print of my fingerprints as required by law. In this portion of the class, the guy next to me raises his hand, and promptly asked what the "muzzle" was. Oddly enough he scored 45 on his range, and 92 on his written. Apart from his scores, I hope I never see him again.
I felt my instructors were extremely competent, and that the course is an excellent course to take. I found the information to be interesting, and I think that whether you want to carry or not, it's nice to know the laws that are there to protect you if you need to protect you.
