Its ok for you to assualt people, your muslim!

Yep you read that right, it is what a judge in Penn told a Muslim defendant who assaulted a man dressed up as a zombie Muhammad during a halloween parade. The defendant admitted to assaulting the victim but was given a free pass because sharia law says it is ok to hurt those that offend you, never mind what the constitution says. http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=49740 This irritates me to no end. Don't mis-interept my feelings toward muslims, I think most of them are great people who live good lives, my girlfriend has a muslim roomate is extremely nice and polite and an all around good person. I also think that muslims have a lot in common with my LDS beliefs. I just don't like it when people get a free pass for doing wrong.

Interesting. The man who was attacked was a member of an atheist group (they had a zombie pope too). Just goes to show that us atheists are even less popular than our muslim brothers.

Huntingbuddy, cases get dismissed all the time, for a variety of reasons. I had a long argument about this whole 'oh my god the muslims are trying to bring sharia law to the US' thing with a co-worker not long ago. It prompted me to do some research into the matter and what I found is that there are some very paranoid fearmongerers who are pushing this and yes, there have in fact been a couple of what appear to be bad decisions made by judges in cases involving muslims. The one many point to is a NJ case where the man raped his wife and was aquitted because the defendant maintained that there can't be rape in a muslim marriage and the judge agreed. Outrageous, right? I think it is and so did the appeals judges, who overturned it. Bottom line, there are a few bad judges out there, but our constitution and judicial system, by design, will not allow religious law to trump the law of the land. You know, that whole seperation clause that conservatives seem to hate. Unless we are talking about the influence of the LDS church on our Utah liquor laws....

I agree with you on the alcohol laws, I am against trying to legislate morals, it does not and never has and never will work.
