| Hatch is nothing more than a firefighter that is an arsonist. First he sets the fires (massive debt via entitlement programs, wars, the Patriot Act), then when he saw what happened to his partner in crime (Bennett) he sounds the alarm and is the on the scene to 'save' the day. He laid the rotten egg, and with Chaffetz running against him, Hatch is pig slob. | |

| I believe that all this pressure is a good thing. I know you guys say take him out, I disagree. Keep the pressure on him so he will do what his constituents want and leave him in office. Hatch has more power in Washington that any of you guys realize. He has been pulling strings to help out with all these wild lands issues, ect. You need someone with his clout on our side, but keep the pressure on him to make him stay true. | |

| How would you keep the pressure on Hatch after he is re-elected? He would have 6 years to cause all kinds of mayhem. We do NOT need powerful senators, that leads to corruption. What we need is principled senators! | |

| That is a great marching call, but lets get back to reality. If Utah keeps putting in freshy's in congress Utah will get walked all over, that is the way the game works, if we like it or not. My father-in-law has been back in Washington DC on many occasions fighting for Carbon County and Utah to keep the federal government from taking over on these land grabs. Hatch, Bennett, Bishop were all huge in helping out with these issues because they sat in higher positions in committees that make the decisions. It takes time to get into these positions. Now I am not defending some of the crap these guys have done, but so far every time we go to replace someone we get someone similar. I just think it is too easy to say, boot them without looking at the WHOLE picture. I am not a Hatch fan, but I know for a fact he does fight for Utah and he was instrumental in getting this wild lands issues overturned. Would have they listened to Chaffets like they did Hatch, NO! | |

| Here is a touch of reality for you, Hatch voted for the Patriot Act, TARP, warrantless wiretaps, Cass Susstein, The Prescription Drug plan. I could list 100 more if needed. Senator Mike Lee has been doing some really good things, can you tell me how Utah is hurt by not having Bennett back there? I recall the first time I met Orrin Hatch, I was a kid at the Sanpete County Fair and he had a booth there to launch his initial run for the Senate. I remember him repeatedly saying he would only serve two terms. This power you refer to is addicting, and it benefits Hatch far more than it does Utah. jahan, your logic is what has kept Harry Reid in office, why Robert Bird was in office so long, why Ted Kennedy was, why we have a bunch of old stiffs that are damn good at taking care of special interests, but SUCK at taking care of the states. | |

| I don't disagree with you at all that he has done some crappy stuff, but to say he sucks at taking care of the states is mostly false. Like I have said he is not great and if a candidate comes along that I think is better than him I wouldn't have a problem voting him out, but Chaffets isn't the answer IMO. I personally don't mind a limited amount of time in office, like 2 or 3 terms. Then everyone would be on a more even playing field. | |

| Care to try and find a valid reason more than 80% of Hatch's campaign funds come from OUTSIDE Utah, while saying he is looking out for Utah?
I am also curious what you have against Chaffetz? Is it his adherence to the Constitution, unlike Hatch, or what? | |

| Now is not the time to get rid of Hatch. That is, unless we can find a way to vote out the likes of every Progressive Senator, and House rep., like UpChuck Shumer, Harry The Fairy pseudo-Mo Reid, John Fn. Kerry, Barney Fudd Frank, Chris Dodd, etc..... Hatch is ranking member of The Senate Finance committee. We need him right now, and we will throw a large balance of power in Washington to The Socialists if we vote him out. Now, before Pro. goes berserk, let me say that I'm all about cleaning house in the Senate and House, but if we vote Hatch out next year we will be shooting Utah and the rest of the country in the foot. There's simply no possible way that a Jr. Senator from Utah would have the influence of Hatch in The Senate. Consequently, I'm going to give Hatch the benefit of much doubt and write him letter every week. Now, more than ever, The People of Utah are waking up, and I belive that Hatch is hearing the screams. From a prior thread: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- proutdoors wrote: "My point is, he repeatedly makes the claim he is 'needed' now more than ever, yet I can't see what 'value' he has that can't be replaced or improved upon by someone else. He is NOT a true conservative, and for anyone to make such an assertion has to ignore Hatch's long voting record." ~ Pro I agree with nearly everything that dubob has written. Pro, not so much…if you can’t see Hatch’s value, then you are...ignorant to the facts and how things actually work in Washington. I say that Hatch is a conservative, and you are not going to find many with a stronger conservative voting record...Maybe you should review Hatch's voting record for yourself and then compare it to every Senator in the last 50 years. He has an 88-90% conservative voting record..... http://www.whorunsgov.com/Profiles/Orrin_G._Hatchhttp://www.ontheissues.org/senate/Orrin_Hatch.htm Not perfect, but find me someone who is! http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2010/0712/Orrin-Hatch-s-no-on-Elena-Kagan-a-template-for-GOP-oppositionhttp://hatch.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Legislation.VotingRecord&Congress=111Go ahead PRO, pick Hatch apart...and then tell us all what you would have done differently from your...libertarian point of view.... We certainly do need Hatch more than ever...In fact, Hatch is far too valuable to lose right now. He is one man, and he simply can't change the world by himself, but he will get some help in November. If we send a new Jr. Senator to Washington, in place of Hatch, in 2012 he isn't going to get anything done and we lose Hatch’s committee stronghold. In theory, I think it’s a great idea to send someone new, yet in practice it is the wrong thing to do. Why? Simply because we are not going to see every incumbent, in every state, voted out of office; it just isn't going to happen. Therefore, if we throw Hatch out we end up screwing our state the entire conservative cause. Now let me say this: I am far more conservative in my political beliefs than Senator Hatch. Nevertheless, I will stand with him, because after considering the big picture he’s our best option right now, and he has the power to help push back the tide of Marxism that is swallowing us whole. As a Senior Member of The Finance Committee, Hatch will control the agenda concerning what actually gets discussed on the floor. We need him because the new banking reform bill is perhaps the MOST socialist piece of legislation ever passed in the history of our country. I would suggest that everyone take some time to find out what it’s all about. Hatch understands the horrific implications of this new law, and he will be able to do something about changing, or even stop, much of the socialist agenda contained therein. After considering ALL things, I’m certain that we need him. In conclusion, I would like to see term limits; although, no matter how bad I want it to happen, in practical terms, it's simply a pipe dream. | |
