I recently had to have a physical to renew my DOT card, to be able to drive the company vehicles. I was told for my height, 5'11", that I should weight 174#. I was a little shocked, as I tipped the scales at 254, technically obese.

The key indicator, or problem for me, was my blood pressure. It was a little high. The doctor took a look at me, and could see that I wasn't all fat, that there was muscle there, and he and I started talking about things to do to lower that. I don't smoke, so that wasn't a problem for me.

I can tell you what I did do, and what I am doing to change this. I drank all the hi-point sodas in my house, and replaced them with diets. I have found some diets, that are actually good, namely diet Dr. Pepper, and Coke Zero. In three weeks, I have shed 15 pounds. I have set a bigger goal for myself in a realistic time period, that will take changing more habits and exercise.

I don't want to be unhealthy.

This is awesome news, Will. I hope that you can feel the difference those 15 lbs had on you and encourage you to continue to reach your goals.

PS. I'm looking for a hot Dr. to perform that 50 year physical I've been hearing so much about. Colonoscopies don't sound fun , but a good lookin' Dr. might help ease the pain a little.

What I want to know is besides self control being an issue, are there substances known to create an addiction or craving to eat that food again. What about all the hormones, preservatives and other chemicals injected into our food? I don't want to dismiss self control but what if all these things make/facilitate self control as something that can no longer be controlled?

My father, who is a recovering alcoholic/drug addict, has always said the best way to quit something is to do it "cold turkey".

I think this still applies to what you questioned Yonni. Chocolate and hot peppers for example, cause your body to release endorphines. I get wicked chocolate jones' sometimes, but I think the thing to remember is you still have control of what you take into your body. It may be hard to control that, especially in the addict's case, but I still believe we are ultimately in control.

40 minutes worth, long but good!

I've stopped drinking soda all together and have lost 10 pounds. I'm now on a product call psyllium husk seed which helps control the GI tract. This stuff rocks, I would recommend trying it out. I've not felt this good in a long time. You can pick it up and most health food stores. I take it everyday now, and not to sound sick but it does make the BM's actually very enjoyable .
