Pepper spray and 8 year old

Concerning the name calling;

I'm not going to say how I would have handled the situation as an officer because I was not present and don't know all the variables that existed. Based off the reported facts, the kid had a makeshift weapon in hand and a history of acting out. There were others in danger. The thing with going hands on with an 8 year old waving a sharpened stick is that the likelyhood of him getting injured is high, and the officer also could get hurt by the stick. How would you go about taking a weapon away from an out of control kid? Just walk right into range and take it from him? Sounds like a good way to get hit. OC burns like shit and is a very unpleasant experience. In most cases it causes fear, panic, and disorientation and takes away the will to fight. Once the subject is restrained, the officer is legally required to begin the decontamination process and the major effects usually subside in about 20 minutes. A few hours later, it is like it never happened. Bruises, cuts, and broken bones from a hard takedown take much longer to recover from. If it were my loved one acting out and threatening cops, I'd rather they sprayed him down and cuffed him up after he is on the ground pleading for help from the burning than charge in and use physical force to subdue him. I hope THAT situation never happens.

The kid has been a problem before, so this should have been done a long time ago, no one cared to get this under control when it should have been done. Is there ADHD involved? I'm no doctor, but there could be physical and mental issues with this kid.

The kid himself knows he is a problem, he's screaming for help to control it, he's screaming for someone to give him structure, Discipline and Guidance.

Instead he gets pepper spray, a TV clip to reinforce that this behavior will get him the attention he craves and then it's back to the same old, same old until he actually hurts someone.

What you don't seem to grasp my elk calling, Tea Partying numbnuts buddy, is that all of the OTHER INNOCENT 8 YEAR OLDS, INNOCENT TEACHERS AND INNOCENT OFFICERS INVOLVED DON'T OWE THIS KID SHIT.

He is the one that was chasing others around with a spear, he was the one throwing T.V. sets. When he armed himself with a weapon he escalated to another level. As a Libertarian would you consider what he did an infringement on all of these other peoples liberty?? Would you consider what he did as an imminent threat to the safety of others??

The kid needed to be brought under control. I don't dispute that. But, and I mean a but as big as your melon, I firmly believe excessive force was used. IMHO, the 'adults' took the easy way out, check that, the 'adults' took the BULLY way out. I have coached youth wrestlers for 20+ years now, I have seen a few out of control kids. I have NEVER, not even for a millisecond, considered using such physical force on an EIGHT YEAR OLD kid.

I agree with you 100% right up to the point where the kid had the weapon. Like I said, as an officer or any other person, I owe it to my family to walk through that door every night. If an 8 year old raging kid with a sharp stick comes between me and fulfilling that goal and using non hands on, non lethal force is one of my options then the choice is a no brainer.

Somehow I knew that, scary, huh.
That was pretty much my life between 5 and 15 years old. I don't regret it one bit. I hate living cows, but that's another subject.
