| He pretty much summarised what I was already thinking. I will add though regardless of who was in office there really isn't much choice in removing a commanding general in a war zone when he publicly doubts the ability to win the war. That is like a slap in the face of his subordinates. | |

I don’t read minds, yet I have a number of friends on active duty. In private, many of them have expressed complete distain concerning the POTUS. No further comment.
He was and is fully entitled to his opinion. If he was that disconnected with the commander in chief he should have expressed that behind closed doors. Commanding generals in a war zone have a direct line to the POTUS. He should have followed Tommy Franks lead and retired quietly. Guaranteed there was a disconnect in ideology and/or strategy between him and Bush because generals do not quit in the heat of battle without a damn good reason.

He should do what anybody should do in a work environment where there is a major disagreement on policy or work conditions between an employee and a boss: seek employment elsewhere.
When you get to the point that you just can’t support your boss, it’s time to quit and go find somebody who you can support or build your own business. Four star generals will never have any difficulty in finding other employment.
In my opinion, General McChrystal should have retired first and THEN voiced his displeasure with the policies of POTUS as the reason for the retirement. I just don’t think you should bad mouth the boss while you still work for him.

| You've both made some great points, and you've made me think through this a little more. | |

| I didn't think the article was that bad. As bad as the media is making it. But BHO is the Commander in chief and MCCrystal should have known better. I don't think any less of him for his comments though. BHO had no choice. He would look like MORE of a wimp than he already is if he didn't can him. | |
