- The bill will have three main elements:
•It makes it a state crime to be in Utah without proper documents. •It requires police to check immigration status, but only of the driver of a pulled-over vehicle. Others in the vehicle could be questioned if suspected of illegal trafficking. •It would give state workers, like at the Department of Workforce Services, a way to report fraud -- like suspected use of false Social Security numbers. http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=833&sid=11919028looks interesting, more info will e released later this week.

Having lived a good number of years and been exposed to all sorts of business folks in my working life, I believe that report is just the tip of the iceberg. The immigrant workforce is being exploited that much and probably way more. By bad apple, I assume you meant the company that refused to pay Mr. Chavez. Again, I think you’re only seeing the tip of the iceberg.
I think hiring illegals in the first place is very wrong and should be punished to the full extent of the law. But if a company does hire an illegal, that company should damn well pay them what was agreed upon.

That was my question, is it really more? I ask because more often or not the media will exploit a single exaggeration of an issue, usually turning a non issue into an issue. So you are saying it is just the tip of the iceberg, that being the case why isn't there more emphasis on the employer hiring these illegal immigrants, if that is where the "real" issue is then why is that not the focus? This push to have a wall built on the border means nothing if employers continue to hire illegal immigrants. I wonder why we are being distracted from where the biggest impact would be? LOL I always have more questions then answers!

Some of the reluctance to report it is the fact that hiring cheaper (illegal) workers keeps prices down for everyone. People are not willing to rock the boat when it will affect their own bottom line.
That trend is starting to change however. The Tea Party movement is a good example of that willingness to finally change things. Also, there are now 23 states that have taken the lead from Arizona and have, or are considering, changes to crack down on illegals. And hopefully, the crack-down will include penalties to businesses that continue to hire illegals.
I’m hopeful that people will finally wake up and see the problem for what it really is – a slow disintegration of the country we once knew and loved.

| More from KSL http://www.ksl.com/?sid=12329018&nid=833This time discussing where is the compassion? - Quote :
- "Where is the compassion for those who are doing it right?" asked Rep. Chris Herrod, R-Provo, who is focusing on reforming immigration laws.
- Quote :
- Yapias called the proposal uncompassionate and again called on a higher power, citing LDS Church leaders' call for "careful reflection and civil discourse when addressing immigration issues."

Which disintegration began a long time ago by whits & tittles and seems to be culminating in the nation's current Administration chomping at the bit to sue every state government that drafts or passes an SB1070 -- > now the disintegration is progressing exponentially and isn't really very slow any more. Our economy is being dragged down the toilet on more than one hand: the greedy corporate bastids who could give a rodent's behind about helping the local economy and the government whose charge it is to serve the very people from whom it is taking with these inane antics and inaction and lawsuits.
Tea Party and Party politics be damned! I say we need to move back to the original ideology of a government for the people (i.e. translated as in positions to serve) by the people who elect those who would serve them best, and of the people - in the which it would give The People a Say in What We Want and allow those elected to Serve a chance to make it happen.
